| Abstract | In the aftermath of the 2008 global financial crisis, financial regulators across jurisdictions introduced sweeping reforms to improve transparency and risk management in over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives market. One of the cornerstone regulations born out of this movement is Swap Data Reporting (SDR), which mandates the collection, validation, and timely reporting of swap transaction data to registered repositories. While these requirements enhance market visibility and systemic risk mitigation, they have created immense compliance pressure on banks and other swap dealers. Swap Data Reporting is far from a check-the-box exercise, it demands real-time accuracy, standardized formats across jurisdictions, seamless system integrations, and an ability to keep pace with evolving regulations. This article delves into the core challenges that financial institutions face in meeting SDR obligations and proposes modern, scalable, and technology-driven solutions that can future-proof compliance strategies. Through architectural innovations, automation, governance, and strategic foresight, banks can not only meet compliance expectations but also unlock operational efficiencies and risk insights. In the current era of global and interdependent financial systems, a ripple in one corner can potentially shock the entire economy. This has led to increased scrutiny with stricter and more complex regulatory requirements being put in place for financial institutions. This paper analyzes the challenges of the complex Swap Data Reporting. |
