Abstract Life insurance awareness plays a pivotal role in promoting financial security, economic stability, and socio-economic development among rural households. In developing economies such as India, rural populations frequently encounter financial uncertainty stemming from irregular income, agricultural dependency, health emergencies, and inadequate social security. Life insurance serves as a critical financial instrument that provides risk protection, cultivates savings behavior, and facilitates long-term financial planning. Despite this, awareness of life insurance products and their benefits remains comparatively low in many rural areas of Bihar, constrained by limited financial literacy, inadequate access to financial institutions, poverty, and insufficient outreach programs.

This empirical study examines the impact of life insurance awareness on the socio-economic development of rural households in Bihar. It analyzes the relationship between insurance awareness and key variables including financial security, savings behavior, educational and healthcare expenditure, and overall living standards. Primary data were collected through structured questionnaires administered to rural households, supplemented by secondary data drawn from academic journals, government publications, and institutional reports. The study also evaluates the effectiveness of LIC outreach campaigns and awareness initiatives in rural settings.

The findings indicate that greater life insurance awareness positively influences financial stability, social security, and economic confidence among rural households. Insurance-aware households exhibit stronger savings behavior, more disciplined financial planning, and enhanced capacity to manage risks. The study concludes that expanding insurance awareness through financial literacy initiatives, digital outreach, and sustained government support can make a substantial contribution to socio-economic development and financial inclusion in rural Bihar.
