| Abstract | Financial technology (fintech) has emerged as a decisive instrument for extending formal financial services to India's rural population, historically constrained by physical distance, low collateral, and thin banking infrastructure. This paper examines how fintech management strategies—encompassing digital payments, agent banking, digital credit scoring, and agri-fintech platforms—can be organised to sustain inclusive rural commerce. Drawing on secondary data from the Reserve Bank of India, the National Payments Corporation of India, the Ministry of Finance, and industry sources such as the Internet and Mobile Association of India, the paper traces the trajectory of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, the Unified Payments Interface, and the Financial Inclusion Index to demonstrate measurable gains in access and usage. The analysis further identifies persistent management challenges, including digital literacy gaps, agent viability, cybersecurity risk, and uneven last-mile infrastructure, that constrain the translation of access into sustainable commercial usage. A management framework is proposed that integrates infrastructure investment, human-centred design, regulatory sandboxing, and public–private partnership as complementary levers for deepening fintech-enabled rural commerce. The paper concludes that inclusive growth through fintech is contingent not merely on technological penetration but on the quality of institutional design surrounding it, and it offers policy-relevant recommendations for regulators, financial institutions, and fintech firms operating in rural India. |
