| Abstract | This study examines the impact of JEEViKA on women’s economic empowerment and poverty reduction in rural Bihar. Grounded in empowerment theory and the sustainable livelihood framework, the research evaluates how participation in Self-Help Groups (SHGs) influences income generation, financial inclusion, decision-making autonomy, and livelihood diversification. Primary data were collected from SHG members using a structured questionnaire, supplemented by secondary sources including government reports and World Bank publications. The study employs descriptive statistics, paired sample t-tests, and regression analysis to test the relationship between SHG participation and economic outcomes. The findings indicate a statistically significant improvement in women’s income levels, savings behavior, and access to institutional credit post participation in JEEViKA. Moreover, the study reveals enhanced decision-making power within households, reflecting a shift in gender dynamics. However, the research also identifies challenges such as limited market access, inadequate financial literacy, and dependence on intermediary institutions. The study contributes to the literature by providing empirical evidence from one of India’s largest rural livelihood programs and highlights the importance of integrating financial inclusion with capacity-building initiatives. The paper concludes that JEEViKA serves as a transformative model for rural development and women empowerment, though its long-term sustainability depends on strengthening institutional frameworks, improving market linkages, and promoting digital financial literacy. The findings hold significant implications for policymakers, development practitioners, and researchers focusing on inclusive growth and gender equity. |
